The Myth of UPVC Windows, Doors & Conservatories

For years UPVC products have been sold on the pretext that they are “maintenance free”

NO man-made product is “maintenance free”

UPVC Frames:

Provided that these are regularly maintained after being installed and are periodically serviced, they will retain their good looks and are unlikely to ever need replacing.


Locks, handles, hinges, keeps and mechanical components require regular maintenance, and this should be carried out at least once a year or in some exposed regions, twice a year, to preserve and maintain the security and functionality of your frames and moving parts.

Rubber Gaskets & Drainage Channels:

Due to the varying nature of Britains weather conditions shrinking and perishing of rubber seals and gaskets is common. Debris and dirt that finds its way past these seals often obstructs and blocks a windows inbuilt drainage system thus preventing the free flow and escape of water and moisture. Keeping these drainage channels clear helps to reduce the risk of units failing.

Sealed Units:

Sealed units begin the process of failure from the moment they are installed into any home. For this reason most manufacturers and installers only offer a maximum 120 month guarantee. With regular professional frame maintenance the expected lifespan of a double glazed unit will far exceed 120 months.
